About the Project

In the series Framed Landscapes, I investigated several nighttime locations in Italy and the United States. This series is a visual response to my previous scholarly studies on the invention of the linear perspective, in particular its use by eighteenth century cityscape painters, know as “vedutisti”. I use digital technology to reconstruct seamless natural-looking photographs, but the elements that seem so balanced and well composed are just the result of heavy post-process work, induced to meet my expectation of order. Superimposing the oval shape as an internal frame, a device often used in the past by artist to direct the attention of the viewer and to give a more elegant feeling, helps me further to question concepts of beauty and photographic representation.
