Installation

This project was a collaboration with my colleague and artist Katie Budden. After a conversation about our own art practices, my own rooted in photography and video, and Katie’s in painting and drawing, we decided to create an experimental work that will bring together our different perspectives and disciplines. Katie began by drawing something loosely recognizable as a map of a not-existent place. Once the drawing was completed, I created visual effects specifically projected in certain regions of the drawing surface. At the time of the installation in the gallery, Katie created a second drawing directly on the gallery wall. I video recorded the act of this drawing and responded by creating a second projection on the wall drawing.

The final result is an ever-changing work, a positive/negative play of the same drawing that changes appearance with what is projected on it. No sound is involved in this project, a choice we feel intensifies the importance of its visual aspects.
